Synchronous Dialog Chain broken

Can multiple dialog steps assigned to the same agent via an expression
be executed as a synchronous dialog chain? i.e. without being sent back
to the Inbox. 

All these steps are defined with 'Advance with dialog' but they keep
going back to the user's Inbox. 

Is there a way around this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
