Question in Travel Management - workflow

Hi All,
  I am using a copy of the standard workflow template WS20000050 (Approve Travel Request) to approve a travel request. In this template, in step 0377 - there is a standard task TS20000130 which is a background task - "Set trip status to approved". 
   
  Once the travel request is approved, the system is trying to set the status of the travel request as "Approved" as a background task..., in this process the system displays a message - Personnel Number - xxxx is locked. Please unlock. 
   
  But, the personnel number record is not edited by anyone else.
   
  Please advise how to handle this message,  whether we need to do anything in the workflow template etc; as the system waits indefnitely at this place.
