Filtering outbox items

G'Day all,
Does anyone have any nifty tricks to hide items from a user's outbox?

We have a number of background tasks that are executed under a user's ID
using advance with dialog (and I mean loads of them), which clutter up the
outbox and confuse matters.

Wishful thinking: I'd like the outbox to hide those which I've specified
to not appear in the log....

Any ideas appreciated,
