Workflow Certification Exam Guidelines

I have participated at the TAWF10 course and have the "Teilnahmebestätigung" to prove it. I also managed to pay attention to the teacher in between looking at the girl(s) and am therefore an "Application consultant 'SAP Business Workflow' with mySAP.com, Certification 2000". So I passed the test, but I don't know if it was by narrow or wide margin. It is getting a bit old though as the certification is from Sept 2000 (version 4.6B or 4.6C).

The course was paid for by my employer. I didn't spend much time in Heidelberg while attending the course. That helps when you want to pass the exam. It is quite possible that one of the laws of nature is that the sum of "amount of beer" and "exam score" is a constant.

What surprised me most was that there were not really any *coding* questions, i.e. detailed development questions. I guess that isn't too easy to make with a multiple choice exam anyway. However, the focus on the course and exam is on workflow basics, administration, integration and getting the overview of workflow and related things. I found the course useful as it covered "everything", and as I just wrote in a previous post the exam is not for learning.

The question is whether this proves you are a clever ABAP developer. I don't think so. I started working with SAP and ABAP in Feb 2000, had never heard of ABAP before that, and passed the exam seven months later. That *could* indicate that I am an extremely clever and quick learner ;-> but looking at some of my solutions from back then I think it instead proves that the exam is not really a test of your development skills. However, in my opinion it does prove that you know your basics and have a fair overview of workflow in SAP. If you are a clever developer, most likely you will also be a clever WF developer when you get some experience with it. The courses help you get experienced quicker as you learn about the various possibilities that exist.

As with any other subject, this certification is somewhat more reliable than a person's own statement that he/she is "experienced in" or "an expert at" something.

Beers? During working hours! Where?

Listing the actual exam questions is forbidden, but discussing the Workflow Certification in general is not (I hope!).

I'm trying to decide whether to do the certification exam, and if so, how to prepare for it.

If passing the exam simply requires memorizing minutiae from the course books (as suggested in another post), then I wouldn't bother. I'm paying for it myself, after all! I would also question the value of this certification as a 'screening tool'
when hiring contractors.

Can we please hear some comments from people who have actually sat & passed the exam?
- was it a fair test of theoretical and practical knowledge?
- would you do it all over again?

cheers & beers
Paul
