popup messages in Portal?

Hi Andy,

When you're in portal, the programming language is pretty much Java
rather than ABAP. Therefore FMs doesn't work from Portal. To answer your
question, it's not possbile to pop your traditional dialogue box in
Portal. In order to make it happen there are two options:

1)	Redesign your workflow and replace dialogue box with
fork/decision step or similar so that you can display the data to user.

2)	If your intention was also to get the input from user (NOT only
display) then you have plug in Java program.

You're in 4.6c version so it's little bit complicated because you can't
do Java in R/3. This will have to be done in Portal side.

Hi Bijay

Basically, yes. Other users, further through the workflow process, will
have access to the SBWP in R/3, but the initiatiating user will not have
(nor need) access to the UWL. All we want to do is provide some
information to them via a popup. They merely need to acknowledge this
information by clicking OK.

In a standard R/3 workflow, to do this is a simple matter (for instance,
using Function Module "POPUP_TO_DISPLAY_TEXT"). I don't need to write
the function myself. However, in the portal, the workitem does not
'Proceed with Dialog', so the popup box FM does not run.

I am hoping that, given creating a popup is such a desirable thing (just
look how many similar FMs exist in R/3 for doing this) the functionality
would already exist.

How do you cause a popup box to occur in the portal, via workflow?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

I'm little confused with your question. You want to bring popup screen
to the user in Portal 5.0 but they will not be using UWL. Is that your
question?

If yes how are you planning to get user's approval? Are you planning to
use Java iViews?

Hi all

Sorry if you get this twice, but I tried posting it yesterday and I've
seen no evidence of it redirecting to the members of the list. Since
yesterday, I have now managed to confirm that we are running Portal
version EP5 SP5 Patch 3 Hot Fix 3

Merry Christmas & a happy new year to you all
Andy

Hi all

A workflow-for-portal question:

We are using SAP 4.6 and version 5 of the Portal (I'm hazy on that but
am trying to confirm). I need to get the workflow to bring up a popup
box message in front of the user - similar to the many popup function
modules in SAP. The user will not be anywhere near a UWL, Integrated
Inbox or SBWP.

Is there a standard, existing piece of functionality to accomplish this?

Thanks
Andy Catherall
