Looking for a generic FM, BAPI, whatever to create, update, delete HR Masterdata for different Infotypes?

I am looking for a generic FM, BAPI, Method, whatever to create, update
HR Masterdata for different Infotypes in a 4.6c environment. It should
be something to which I can pass the Infotype/Subtype number and the
respective values, since there is the need to work on several Infotypes
with Background Tasks. I looked at object 'Infotype' but it does not
really fit. I could not find a Bapi too, any clues?
