Hi Rick,
"Step not in workflow log" is a marvellous feature - as it affects all user views of the workflow log
including the workflow summary log.

Recommend you make made maximum use of Generic Object Services > Workflow Overview and shown all
your users how to use this to check out the workflow summary log related to their object from their normal transactions, e.g. view the purchase requisition release strategy workflow related to their purchase requisition from the purchase requisition display transaction itself. Extra bonus is this works in SAPGUI for HTML now as well.

But as the whole log still has to be held for the administrator, chances of improving performance are minimal. Possibly a small gain when you are viewing the summary workflow logs and similar.
Jocelyn

P.S. If Generic Object Services is news to you I did an article on it in a recent issue of SAP HR Expert mag.

Subject: Task option: "Step not in workflow log"

When this option is checked it only hides the "display"
of the logged task from the standard view.
All tasks are still logged in the Technical View.
This is to not display background & misc steps that a
user would not care to see if viewing his WF log.

Question:
Other than hiding the views of these misc tasks from the user,
does hiding them improve performance or reduce any entries
in any tables?

I don't believe they improve anything except not displaying in standard view.
But anything that can possibly improve performance is worth the asking.

Thanks!

Thanks!
