Change ObjectKey in a started workflow when not valid

Hi,
 
Is it possible to change the Objektkey theat comes from an eventcontainer,
if this objektkey is not valid in the SAP-system?
 
My problem is that I have a VB program which call the
"SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT" function module directly. The event that is called
is in the BOR KNA1, with the objectkey customerno. Some times the user of
the VB program enters the customernumber without the leading zero's, and
then the workflow can't find the object. I would like to change/update the
objectkey, so the workflow can find this object even if the leading zero's
is not ntered by the user.
