You can use SWW_WI_STATUS_CHANGE_NEW to force it into error status.
It may be worth checking SM58 for any clues at to why they are hanging.

Subject: In process

Hi all,

I have a workflow that only contains a background task which sends an
e-mail... When i look at all the started workflows, i see some that are
'in process' but i have no way of finding them... Is there a way to <kill>
them? It is anoying to see workflows in process and have no way of
cleaning them...

Thanks

Serge
