Completing SAP 4.6c Workitem Manually Selects Wrong Outcome

Greetings Workflow experts,
 
When I manually try to complete a workitem, the workflow continues on a
different outcome than the one I selected.
 
One of our workflows which posts an invoice and links the image to it did
not complete successfully, when the image browser crashed. The post invoice
workitem remained in READY status. I  attempted to complete the workitem
manually, (i.e. from the technical workitem display, Edit > Change >
Complete manually), after changing some container values. This workitem has
only two defined outcomes: 'Document Posted' and 'Processing Rejected'.
However, even though I selected the Document Posted outcome, the workflow
continues on the Processing Rejected outcome. I repeated this several times
and saw the same erroneous outcome.
 
I had done this earlier successfully, so I am not sure why it doesn't work
in this instance. We are on release 4.6c.
