Custom RFC for Reporting which users have reserved work items.

Hello All,
I am looking for a bit of advice here really because I am concerned that
what I am being asked to do may affect the workflow runtime engine
adversely. (After reading Chapter 13 in Practical Workflow for SAP)

We have a workflow in R/3 whose only step is to trigger a workflow in CRM
i.e. when the status of a Project changes.

The CRM workflow is a single step workflow which puts a work item in a users
workflow inbox which takes them to transaction BP.
In SWWWIHEAD, the CRM workflow's only reference to the R/3 Project is in the
WI_TEXT, WI_TEXT is not indexed.
The CRM workflow container does however have a Project Number element which
is obtained from the event container sent by the triggering workflow in R/3.

I have been asked to write an RFC which takes a list of Projects from R/3
and finds their relevant CRM workflow dialog step and reports back on who
has reserved,actioned,of unreserved.

Firstly, is there a way of doing this other than described above and if not
is the approach described above a risky one ?

Many Thanks
David
