Does 'Set work item to obsolete' also kill background process?

Hi,

Is there anyone who can answer the following question: does a process
control step that sets a work item (background task) to obsolete (after
a latest end has been reached) also 'kill' the background process
started by the background task?

I use this construction to create a dialog work item in case automatic
processing in the background task takes too long and thus also want to
'kill' the process (= program called from my method) started.

Regards,
