Automatically End a Mail after a given time

Hi,
 
i was asked to change our workflow so that the mails, that our Initiators
get at the end of the workflow
terminate automatically after a given time.
This wish was caused by our customers who never confirmed the mails so that
they now have hundreds of mails in their Inbox.
 
Has anyone an idea how i can implement this?
