Express message with a Role

Hi All
 
I am looking for a way to send an express message to the recipients of a
work item when they are determined via a role.
I have set the priority to 1 in the 'other tab' of the task definition,
however the express popup is not appearing when the agent for the task is
defined in a role. In the case where the agent is a user, it works fine.
Does anyone perhaps know if this is a restriction by SAP, or am I missing
something.
