Role based on responsibilities

Hi Amit,
Responsibility rules have a "dummy criteria" feature (yes it really is a feature and not one of those
undocumented ones... :-) ) that means if you don't pass an optional parameter, it will assess all responsibilities
without taking into account that parameter.

All of which is a rather long-winded way of saying there is something wrong with your workflow to rule
binding. The binding button sits in the workflow definition in the step near the rule number.

It might help to make the rule parameters "mandatory" as you will then get messages in the workflow log
telling you which fields have not been passed a value.

Hi Tomasz,

I'm trying to go alpng wioth your theory but one thing troubles me - my task IS defined as a general task but only those users who are linked inside the role to one (or more) responsibilities get the work item. In addition, I've checked in the workflow log (is that the right place?) and the binding
to the role looks OK.

Any other thought?

thanks for the help,

Amit

A dumb question: are you sure you pass the data to the role correctly? What
I could see as one possibility is that:

- no data is passed,
- the agent determination procedure (=role) finds no agent, fails silently
- workflow assumes all allowed agents, including all those specified in
responsibilities
- you've checked these who were assigned and all of them got the item
- (if your task were "general", so would all other users...)

It happened to me once :-)
Tomasz

Subject: Role based on responsibilities

Hi all,

I have a problem with roles based on responsibilities. It seems that
although the simulation for these roles works fine, on runtime the role
selects all the users related to any responsibility inside it as an agent
(i.e. it is as though all the responsibilities turn out valid altohugh they
are mutualy exclusive!).

Has anyone encountered such a problem? what can I do to find out the reason?
is there any debugging i can do?

Please help,

Amit
