Express wokitems just like express messages?

Hello, workflowers-
my customer wants the following szenario:
- a (workflow)user is logged in, but is  n o t  in his inbox
- a workitem of a specific task is coming in
- the user should be informed of this by a popup:
  " You have a new express workitem.
    Go to the inbox and execute?"
- if yes, the user should be directed directly to the inbox, or (better)
  the workitem should be executet directly without going to the inbox
- the customer wants no additional office messages for that
 
Is this possible by standard? Has anyone of you a customer solution?
