Sending HTML Mail out of SAP

I am wondering if someone can help me with a problem I am having.  I am
trying to send a mail out of SAP to a given users Outlook email account.  I
do not have a problem with sending out a standard text email (via function
module 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1' or via Business Object SelfItem).
What I am trying to do is send out a email in the format of HTML.  I have
got it to work by formatting the body of the email and sending it to the SAP
inbox (when user clicks on it Internet Explorer is started and the text
displayed) but when it is sent out to the user email account (outlook) the
HTML code is displayed.
 
I have made an entry in table 'TSOTD' for HTM and this is set as the
document type and there is no conversion within the configuration to
SAPconnect.  I don't want to use the conversion as I want to control the
HTML commands.
