Audit Log

The "audit log" information that has been mentioned by all the participants
in this thread can be summarized into two major groups:
- application-level logs (i.e. written by FI, MM or whichever module,
usually via change documents) that record what happened to the respective
document. These have very little to do with the workflow, are provided by
the application and thus are available also after the archiving of work
items.
- workflow logs -- these are written by the WF system and can be accessed
(among others) via the "Object Services --> Workflow orverview". These can
be archived, but the outcome actually depends on how you do this.

The term "archiving" can mean in the SAP context either of:
- deletion of data from the SAP database. This is irreversible; if this had
been done, you will not be able to access your work item data.
- transport of data to a storage media external to SAP _followed_ by the its
deletion from the SAP database. In this case you can ask your
administrators to retrieve the information for you, but unless you have an
online archive, this will require some some and effort to get done. In other
words, you cannot expect the workflow log to be available "on request" for
each individual item.

There's also the nice option of having an online archive that would on a
user request retrieve the data from the archive (even for individual items)
-- but it's really a costly one, and based on your description you're not
one of the fortunate ones.

That's it on the theory -- the details (e.g. data retrieval program
availability etc.) would need to be worked out separately.

Kind regards,
Tomasz

After you archive work items, is there a transaction code so that a user can
display the approval route of a particular document? We are on 4.0B and
have begun archiving work items. When I pull up a document via FB03, I can
normally go through the menu path to get to object links in order to see the
audit trail. Now, I get the message that no work items exist.
