the inbox to the
workitem..
 
I would suggest using an extension (user exit) in the WBS application to
send the popup. I don't think that standard workflow will give you what you
need..

Hi Angelo,
 
if an express mail (caused by your workitem) has been sent to a user, SAP
sends a pop-up to that user (recipient) to notify him/her about incoming
express mail.
Just give it a try. :)
