Create document from template & business object WF_DOC method CRE ATE_SOFM

Hello Everybody,
 
In the "book", page 355, it is written that you can convert a document
created in a 'create document from template' step into a standard sap office
document using the method CREATE_SOFM of object WF_DOC.
It also says in a footnote, that this method is available from release 6.10
of the SAP Web Application Server.
 
How can we perform a similar task on a 4.6c environment ?
