Org Structure - Buffering problem

Hi all -
 
I created an org structure that is being used by a standard workflow -
specifically, this workflow only looks for one position within the org
structure.  At first, I had two users - call them Jack & Jill - assigned to
this position.  When I ran the workflow, the work item was sent to both of
them, and everybody was happy.
 
Then a third user - Joe - took over Jack's assignment.  So I needed to
remove Jack from the position and assign Joe to it.  And that worked well
in PPOMW.  But when I run the workflow, it's still sending the work item to
both Jack & Jill, not Joe & Jill.  I know the org structure is buffered &
I'm wondering if that has something to do with my problem.  There's only
one plan version of the org chart, so I don't believe it could be looking
at a different one.
 
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix the problem?  It would be
greatly appreciated.
