When dealing with distribution lists...

Hello Fellow Workflowers,
 
When dealing with distribution lists, is there any automatic way for a new user
to see all documents that were put in the list's inbox before the new user was
added to the list?  We have explored the substitute option, but that does not
seem to work as 'casually' as we would like.  Any suggestions?
