Deletion of Workitems with Error status

We have just entered into a Dev box for 4.6c.  During the initial setup of
configuration, several workflows were inadvertently triggered for objects
bus2078, even though the object types had not been defined.  We found out
the workflow was triggering off the event create for all similar objects
even though they were not bus2078.  Once the object types were defined, the
workflow worked correctly, but the existing objects no longer fit the
criteria of the workitem and now the workitem is stuck.  What can I do to
get the workitem out of my inbox.   The current status is Error.
 
Exact scenario.  WF is created to trigger off of an create event for QM
notifications of type X.  Prior to setting up system the type X was not
defined so the system was picking up all notifications, including the PM
notifications, bus2038.  Once the notification types were set up, the
workitem for the workflow of the QM notification of type X, is looking for
the correct notification, which does not exist.  I have tried to delete the
workitems, but cannot.  Below is the error message received.  BUS2078 is the
object type for QM notification, but the key 000010000476 is a PM
notification of Object type bus2038.  What can I do to delete these
workitems????

Diagnosis
