Executing a FM in background

Keep in mind that your background FM cannot execute any frontend functions

Hi Workflowers,
 
I have created a function module which invokes a JAVA application.
However, the client wants the action i.e the execution of the FM to be done
in the background.
 
I have changed the method to synchronous and in the task to background. 
When I execute the workflow, the log says that it's complete, but the FM
does not seem to be executed.
 
Any suggestions?
