QMSM workflow

Has anyone worked on a workflow for maintenance notifications using the
QMSM object?
 
I'm having difficulty getting the 'completed' and
'responsibilityischanged' events to complete the step on the workflow for
a task built on an extended version of QMSM.  These are being stipulated
at the task level.  It seems to be stuck as 'in process' event even when
changes to the notification task are accomplished. Container items and
event linkage have both been checked.  Is there a trick to forcing the
item thru to the next step on the workflow once the item has been
processed in the inbox?
