Using Workflow to manage nightly batch processing

Hi All,
 
We are currently looking at alternative ways to manage our nightly batch
processing.  One idea that we have come up with is to use workflow to manage
our individual batch streams, submitting each job in order and using logic
in the workflow template(s) to handle dependencies etc.
 
Is anyone on this list using workflow to do this?  If so, do you have any
tips / tricks / things to avoid?
 
Any feedback would be very much appreciated.
