Workflow not executing Active Version

Activate the workflow template in the production system; I have had similar
problems transporting changes to workflows, albeit last time in a 3.1
release. If you want to be on the safe side, create a new version. Also look
at OSS re. this topic (e.g. note 125400).

We have two different systems  but I am getting a funny error with one
system for an identical workflow.
 
We have the same workflow in both systems and they were working fine.  I
need to make a change and got it transported through into the production
system (via test).  It all worked fine in test so we put it through into
production.  It now works in one system but not the other.  I had to change
the binding of one of the tasks and now in both systems the binding is
correct when you display the workflow but when you go into the container of
the workitem is still shows the binding of the old set-up in one system but
correct in the other.
 
Summary
Both system are active and saved.
Both systems have the same binding.
Both systems have the same tasks with the same technical info.
In one system the workitem passes the old elements.
 
I have also tried to re-transport the changes but no luck.
