Express Email messages

Hello all,
 
I am trying to setup up a workflow so a popup message is presented to the
user upon a new specific workitem arriving in their inbox.
 
I have set the priority to express and also tried sending express messages,
but I am having no luck - the workitems appear, but no popup boxes are
created. Please can someone elighted me to how this can be set up.
