Rolling out SAP MAPI

Hi Peter,
We did this rollout a few months back when we upgraded to 46B. Some of our
users already had SAP MAPI 4.5a and we rolled out the 46B version to all our
users.
As you pointed out, we did not have a problem in installing the MAPI but we
certainly did the configuration of Outlook manually.
It worked out for us since not all users were involved in Workflow. We are
rolling out the Workflows and Outlook Configuration in a phased manner and
doing it manually.
If you have tried configuring the outlook with this service, you will find
that the SAPMAPI service also checks for userID and password. I don't know
whether we could automate this process.
We automated the process up to the point were we click on Outlook properties
and add the service to an existing profile( we did not use SAP profile).

Thanks
Swami

Thanks Jeeva,

We are using SAPGUI 4.6d. I don't actually have a problem with getting the
SAP MAPI installed on the client machines, what I would like to automate is
the step of adding the service to Outlook. When you do this manually, you
are prompted to log on to SAP and set some options like enabling workflow,
offline support etc. Many of our users would find this a confusing
exercise. We are trying to cement SAP as the company's workflow engine, and
to support this we need to be able to roll out the SAP MAPI service with a
minimum of fuss.

Regards

Peter.

Hi Peter
As of SAPGUI 4.0B release, SAP MAPI is included in the frontend
installation CD. In this case, it depends on how SAPGUI is rolled out to all
the users. I don't know how this should be done in earlier releases < 4.0B.

All,

We would like to roll out the SAP MAPI service to all of our SAP user base
(maybe 500 or so users) so that they can process their work items from
Outlook 98. Does anyone know of an way to automate this roll out without
requiring manual intervention by each user?

PS. I am happy enough to develop a solution however the Outlook 98 object
model does not expose the Services collection.
