Hola Salseros!
We'd like to first welcome all the students back to Greater Boston! And
although summer is not officially over (it sure feels like it!), we hope you
had a great vacation!
The MIT Salsa Club has been re-gearing itself over the summer for the fall
and winter terms. Consequently, we're pleased to announce that we're all
ready for another great season of FREE dance instruction for all MIT
students and the general public!
Please take the time to visit our updated web site at
http://web.mit.edu/salsaclub/www.
We've also posted this term's class schedule on our "Club Lessons and
Workshops" page at http://web.mit.edu/salsaclub/www/events.shtml.
As with the previous term, the Salsa Club will be offering free classes for
both beginners and intermediate dancers on Monday and Tuesday evenings of
every week.
Monday Intermediate Lesson and Social Dance (7-8:30)
Like last term, this class will still be challenging. However, new
additions and subtractions have been made to the class format. First, the
class will begin with basic group stretching and a dancing warm-up to
music. Next, the lesson will be divided into smaller segments that focus on
specific elements of partner and individual dancing. And as always, we will
be teaching an intricate and challenging partner combination for the latter
half of the class. However, this year we've decided to shorten the length
of the combos for the benefit of both students and instructors!
Tuesday Beginner Lesson and Social Dance (7-8:30)
Our beginner lessons are geared towards instructing both first-time dancers
and dancers with a grasp of the basics. Our instruction team will warm up
the class with group stretching and dancing to music followed by
mini-workshops on such things as basic spinning technique, maintaining
posture and balance, timing, leading and following technique and basic
partner combinations. This class will be broken up into two sections: one
section for beginners, another section for advanced beginners.
Also, our instruction team will change throughout the term, so new faces
will bring new lessons and styling throughout the fall lesson schedule!
Off/On Campus Events
The MIT Salsa Club has been invited to participate in some big events this
coming year, so stay tuned for exciting announcements about Salsa Club
activities. We'll also be hosting another salsa social in either January or
February of next year!
Welcome Back!!!
>From all of us at MIT Salsa Club, welcome back to the dance floor! This
Monday's intermediate lesson (September 18)--our first for the term--will be
followed by social dancing for everyone. We invite everyone of all dance
calibers to dance and meet each other on the dance floor in Morss Hall
(Directions: http://whereis.mit.edu/map-jpg?mapterms=50-140&mapsearch=go)
from 8:30 until ??? So come out and dance!!!
