Dear Purple Blurb folks,

Our one big public event of the semester is today at 5pm and is
co-sponsored with the Communications Forum:

December 4, 5pm-7pm at MIT in 66-110

LEV MANOVICH - FOX HARRELL - NICK MONTFORT

“Making Computing Strange,” a forum with: Lev Manovich (Software Takes
Command, The Language of New Media), Fox Harrell (Phantasmal Media),
moderated by Nick Montfort. The forum will examine the ways in which
computational models can be used in cultural contexts for everything from
analyzing media to imagining new ways to represent ourselves.

Tomorrow, on Friday from about 10am until 5pm, there will be a workday
and playday at the Trope Tank. This is a time when the lab (in MIT's
14N-233) will be open and people will be working on projects of various
sorts, from printing things using letterpress and dot matrix systems
to sorting through floppy disks for home computers to playing classic
video games. If you have an interest in one of these projects, or
something else (such as programming in HyperCard or on the C64), this can
be accommodated. Please email me if you would like to participate and
let me know approximately when you plan to be there, along with something
about your interest in activities that day.

  -Nick
