[panda-users] need help reading stringserach.cpp

I'm trying to read and understand stringsearch.cpp. I'm a noob with C++. (This is actually a C++ question, but my searching C++ forums is just getting me confused.) 
My question is about how string_pos in std::map<prog_point,string_pos> &text_tracker in the mem_callback function is getting set to a value other than default? 
Specifically, where is the value for the key p in text_tracker coming from?
