[Olympus] Target cell heating

Dear Colleagues,

As many already know there were some heating problems when we operated the target cell in February with the 4 GeV beam used for synchrotron running. Because of these problems the scattering chamber was removed at the end of February and replaced with a section of beampipe. I should point out that the target cell was able to run at 2 GeV so operation for the experiment is not a problem. However, the cell could not be left in for synchrotron running.

Recently there have been several meetings and discussions on this topic and some reports have been prepared. These are available from the OLYMPUS Documentation web page:

http://web.mit.edu/OLYMPUS/DOCUMENTS/Cell%20Heating/

Several improvements are foreseen and we will re-install the target chamber and test these improvements in the future.

                                                    Cheers,
                                                            Douglas
