SAHSA ALEKSIC FUND FOR EDUCATION Sasha Aleksic Fund for Education has been established in memory of Dr. Sasha Aleksic, a young scientist from Johns Hopkins University who tragically died two years ago. His friends have established this fund with the initial intention of providing several scholarships each year to students in Serbia. As a non-profit organization registered in the United States, the Fund's goals in the first phase will primarily be to assist talented young men and women in Serbia to pursue their education in their country. This will be accomplished by providing young students from all domains with scholarships. SAFE will have a particular interest in financing students in poor economic condition. In the later phase, with the anticipated growth of funds, we would like to support the regeneration of the educational system in Serbia. We believe that this is possible only if the excellence and integrity of educational institutions are restored. Therefore, we will support and promote, as much as possible, the endeavors, individual or institutional, that lead to the rebuilding of education in Serbia Acknowledgements: We would like to acknowledge the performers for supporting our cause by taking part in this event free of charge. We are thankful to the organizations that made this event possible by their generous contributions: Ensemble "KOLO", MIT Graduate Student Council, The Kokkalis Program on Southeastern and East-Central Europe, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and The Serbian-American Alliance of New England. Information about the event: . More information about MOST . Message-ID: MIT Organization of Serbian Students would like to invite you to another movie projection: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: "Time of the Gypsies", (Dom za vesanje) by Emir Kusturica, 1989 DATE: Thursday, May 9, 2002 TIME: 7 PM PLACE: MIT Room 4-231 (http://whereis.mit.edu/bin/map?locate=bldg_4) RUNTIME: 136 min LANGUAGE: Roma/Serbian with subtitles in English GENRE: Comedy, Drama DESCRIPTION: In this luminous tale set in the former Yugoslavia, Perhan, an engaging young Gypsy with telekinetic powers, is seduced by the quick-cash world of petty crime which threatens to destroy him and those he loves. The rare glimpse into the Romany Gypsy culture is enough to make this film interesting, but the story is so compelling, the cinematography so excellent and the characters so fascinating, that it takes on the proportions of a major work of film. Emir Kusturica won the award for Best Director from the Cannes Film Festival for Time of the Gypsies (1989). We cannot recall any film delivering so much of that which we all watch foreign films for. Remember, we recommend that it be watched twice, in order to absorb the ambience. About Kusturica: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Please, visit the MOST's website at for the information about our future events.
