“Time-resolved ion imaging studies of organic carbonyl photochemistry”

Velocity-map imaging (VMI) is a powerful tool for the study of photodissociation and reaction dynamics that enables direct measurement of product speed and angular distributions. State-resolved detection using resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization allows detailed measurements of correlated product pair distributions while single-photon (“universal”) ionization using vacuum ultraviolet radiation facilitates quantification of branching fractions. Here, I will describe applications of time-resolved VMI using both nanosecond and picosecond duration pulsed lasers to probe competitive pathways in acetone, acetaldehyde, and acetaldehyde cation.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the seminar!
