There will be a Modern Optics and Spectroscopy Seminar held next Tuesday, May 1 at 12pm in 34-401

Professor Stephen R. Leone
Departments of Chemistry & Physics
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
University of California, Berkeley

”Attosecond Dynamics: From Molecules to Semiconductor Solids”

X-ray transitions accessed by attosecond pulses are responsive to charge, chemical oxidation state, and electronic environment, and they exhibit sensitive shifts even with vibrational excitation. An introduction to femtosecond and attosecond x-ray measurements is presented, with a basic goal to reveal new dynamical timescales and processes in molecule and solids. Investigations involve the development of methods to explore passage through conical intersections, carbon-molecule ring opening, singlet-to-triplet transitions, the response of semiconductors to the excitation of carriers, and core-level excitons in single layers of metal dichalcogenides.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the seminar
