Please join us for the Modern Optics and Spectroscopy seminar, held today, December 6, at 12pm in the Grier Room (34-401) with Poorya Hosseini (MIT: LBRC, Mechanical Engineering, Biological Engineering):

Advancing Interferometric Microcopy to Study Blood Disorders and Beyond
This presentation begins by introduction of a platform technology that characterizes a range of biophysical properties for individual red cells using advanced label-free interferometric microscopy. While the main focus of this talk is the use of this platform to study a genetic blood disorder known as sickle cell anemia, our technology and methodology is germane to any application where characterization of cellular properties of erythrocytes and potentially other cell types is of interest. In the second half of the talk, I present our unpublished work on development of a new technique pushing the frontiers of interferometric microscopy by adding molecular specificity in a label-free fashion.

Lunch will be served immediately following the seminar at 1pm.
