Raman spectroscopy of single-wall carbon nanotubes

December 11, 2007

12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
Grier Room 34-401

A single wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) is a new form of carbon, whose
atomic arrangement is equivalent to a graphene sheet rolled into a
cylinder in a seamless way. Due to its small diameter and high aspect
ratio, a SWNT has very unique electronic and vibrational properties.
A widerly-tunable micro Raman instrument with diffraction
efficiencies exceeding 90% is developed for studying various
properties of SWNTs. Results from the study of The electronic
transition energies, diameter, length, substrate interaction, and
strain level are presented.
