I also did updated my iPhone and iPad2..of course after updating OS, iPhoto and iTunes.
It does take forever.. it also gave me some random errors and had to restart. I think it was a bad idea to update apps before updating iOS. NFL2011 refused to be restored and the process got stuck. I ended up marking it deleted in iTunes and also delete it from iPad2. Then it worked. My iPhone was a bit better as I did not update any apps today and updated it to iOS. I had only one problem (some weird failure without any code). I restarted it worked. My son on the other hand got more than 3 failures and iPhone 4 (AT&T) got so messed up…went to a store and got it replaced. Original iPad update from a PC takes FOREVER…. so I am going to see if it is done in the morning.

After all of that, the update was successful and I have seen no issues with the device. It did take longer than expected, but went fine. All mail/calendar working correctly, all settings/apps/ music/photos, etc. present with no problems.

My theory is that the Apple servers were overloaded and unable to adequately respond to the verification request during upgrade causing my initial 2 failures. Not sure what happened on the third time.

> Apple has released iOS 5 today, available as a free download via iTunes for a selection of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models. iOS 5 incorporates a variety of new features, including an updated notification system, wireless setup and backup capabilities, Exchange task-syncing using a new app called Reminders, Twitter integration, new camera and photo-editing features, and more. For more information, I recommend visiting http://www.apple.com/ios/

> Although iOS 5 has been tested by the Mobile Devices Team and many IS&T-supported features, such as Exchange and IMAP support, work as expected in the new OS, we are not yet announcing support for iOS 5 and instead we currently recommend that users wait to upgrade to the new OS. The only obstacle remaining at this point is that the IS&T certificate renewal page does not yet support iOS 5. However, once this page has been updated, we will be able to send out another announcement concerning full IS&T support.
