Greetings!

Information Services and Technology (IS&T) recently launched an
interactive text messaging service (MIT SMS) in beta for the MIT
community. (The acronym SMS stands for Short Message Service.)

Along with the MIT Mobile Web (http://m.mit.edu), MIT SMS provides a
new way for MIT community members to access information on the go.
Anyone with a text-messaging-capable phone can use the service to
connect to the following information sources within seconds:

- People Directory for looking up the phone number, email address, and
physical address of individuals in MIT's online directory
- Shuttle Schedule for looking up the approximate current location of
Tech Shuttle vehicles (via GPS)
- Stellar for retrieving class announcements

To get instructions on using the service, simply text INFO to 648338
(which spells MITEDU on a phone dial pad) or visit http://mobi.mit.edu/about/sms.html
.

NOTE: Although this is a free service from MIT, users may be subject
to text-messaging fees from their carriers depending on their plan.

MIT SMS will continue to expand and allow community members to gain
access to even more information in the future. For questions and
feedback, please send email to mobiweb at mit.edu.

Cheers and Happy Texting!

Andrew
