Good Morning,

Information Services and Technology (IS&T) announces retirement of support for Palm OS devices as of September 30, 2009. This includes support for devices such as Palm T/X, Treo 650p, 700p, 755p, and the Palm Centro.

Earlier this year, Palm Inc's CEO announced that the company will shift their focus to their new operating system (webOS) and retire the Palm OS platform (PDAs and Treo smartphones). Based on the vendor's decision and MIT's efforts to reduce costs and provide better support to the MIT mobile device community, IS&T will focus support on more popular mobile platforms including Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and iPhone devices. These are the recommended mobile platforms based on their stability, current technology, and integration with MIT's current infrastructure.

We understand that discontinuing support for Palm OS may be inconvenient to users of these devices. To assist with the transition, we have produced a set of documentation that highlights the recommended devices, how to use them and their functionality. It also includes a link the Palm Inc's, Palm Support via Live Chat function. Please see https://wikis.mit.edu/confluence/display/MobileDevices/Mobile+Devices+Wiki

If you still have question about transitioning or recommended devices, the Mobile Devices Team is available to work with you and can be reached via email at mobile-help at mit.edu.

Best,
Matthew Sullivan
