[Mobilepartners] iPhone Security Vulnerability & Workaround

Greetings,

Information Services & Technology (IS&T) recently became aware of an  
issue
related to Apple's iPhone (iPhone). If you are an iPhone user, you are
susceptible to a security vulnerability even if you use a passcode to  
lock
your device.

In theory, locking your iPhone with a passcode prevents others from
obtaining data stored on your iPhone. In practice, however, there is a  
way
that others who come across your iPhone can circumvent the system and  
access
your email, contacts, text messages, and web browser (with  
certificates, if
these are already stored on your device).

Apple will be releasing a software update with a fix in the near future.

In the meantime, follow these steps to minimize your risk exposure and
prevent a potential breach of your personal information in the event  
that
your iPhone is lost or stolen:

1. Go to Home > Settings > General.
2. Select the "Home" button.
3. Select "Home."

After you have completed these steps, your iPhone will be less  
vulnerable.

Note: IS&T is working on a comprehensive update regarding iPhone
recommendations for members of the MIT community.
