Good morning,

Apple and AT&T just announced more details on the iPhone activation and the
pricing for the monthly rate plans.

1) Activation: According to the announcement
(http://www.apple.com/iphone/pr/20070626activate.html), "users will be able
to activate their new iPhone in the comfort and privacy of their own home or
office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated".
iPhone activation will require the following:

System Requirements
iPhone activation requires an Internet connection; an iTunes Store account
or a major credit card; a valid Social Security number (as required by
AT&T); the latest version of iTunes available at www.itunes.com and a PC or
Mac with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems: Mac OS®
X v10.4.10 or later; Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or
later; or Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise or Ultimate
Edition. iPhone requires a new two-year AT&T service plan. Customers with
existing AT&T accounts will have the option of keeping their existing phone
number and upgrading their account to work with iPhone. See separate iPhone
Service Plan press release for further details.

2) Rate Plans for iPhone:
AT&T will be offering "all inclusive plans" that will include Visual
Voicemail and unlimited data service. The pricing is comparable to services
offered to non-smartphone devices, and the lowest plan is actually cheaper
than the ones available for other smartphone customers at the moment.

The full detail is available from the URL below:

* Minimum new 2-year wireless service plan and activation fee required to
activate iPhone features, including iPod; plans are subject to AT&T credit
approval.

Please note that IS&T will be evaluating the iPhone as soon as it becomes
available. We ask those of you interested in the iPhone to await the results
of the evaluation before purchasing.

Cheers,

Andrew
