MIT Alumni Association
Technology Day 2004 "Shifting Gears" presents

Ernest J. Moniz
Professor of Physics, Director of Energy Studies, MIT

"Oil, Security, Environment, Technology"

Dean Kamen
"The Segway Alternative"

As the price of oil tops $50 a barrel, Moniz describes a range of new
factors that affect supply and demand, and offers key objectives for
consideration in US energy policy. Later, inventor Dean Kamen
delivers an overview of the history of the Segway, while riding one
across the stage at Kresge. The invention of the Segway and its
eventual adoption as a viable transportation mode will require
systemic change, which Kamen argues is a change in thinking about
transportation, cities and urban design.
