Dear Friends of MIT World,

With the arrival of our fourth season, we want to share some new
features at <http://mitworld.mit.edu>MIT World.

First, you can now access MIT World directly from the
<http://mit.edu>MIT home page. Find it under the Education heading,
next to OpenCourseWare. Click on "video" and go directly to MIT
World.

Second, the video content (which now includes more than 215 video
events) is being distributed via
<http://www.akamai.com/index_flash.html>Akamai's 15,000 servers
worldwide. Akamai operates the world's largest distributed network
of its kind - with servers in 65 countries. Our international
visitors, as well as those of you outside of Massachusetts will now
be able to access the video content from a server local to where you
are on the Web. This change will make the video stream more robust,
and enable us to handle increases in traffic and usage. We worked
closely with <http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html>MIT's OpenCourseWare,
whose content is also distributed by Akamai, to provide this
enhancement. We welcome Akamai as a new partner and thank our
colleagues at MIT's OpenCourseWare for their assistance.

The email announcements that you receive from MIT World will soon be
reformatted. The new format will have new features including
announcements about upcoming MIT sponsored conferences, publications
and events, and links to our partners. The new email is being
designed by <http://www.barrett.com/>Barrett Communications and will
be deployed later this fall.

All of these changes are in direct response to the thousands of
emails we've received with your suggestions and comments. We thank
you for your ideas and feedback.

Sincerely,

The MIT World Team
