Hi everyone,
Beginning tomorrow at 10am and lasting until 4pm, MIT Amnesty will have petitions available in Lobby 10 for you to sign to voice your protest of government crackdowns in the Middle East and North Africa. This is one way you can take important action to help support people struggling for democracy.
Petitions have already helped make an impact in Libya. Encouraged by members of the public who have already voiced their support, many Libyan military officers and generals have defected to opposition parties to the government rather than bomb their own cities. Most of the Libyan diplomatic corps in the US, including Libya's Ambassador to the UN, have defected to the opposition as well. The letters of encouragement as well as petitions from the public have given these officials the courage to take the unprecedented step of defecting because every defector risks his life and family.
Therefore, please continue supporting these people and encouraging others to oppose the regressive regime in Libya.
Please stop by this Monday to Friday, from 10am - 4pm, to help push along this wave of democracy.
Thank you very much,
Hanzhi Zhu
