[Mit_energy] SD Outreach Events

Hello Solar Decathletes,

For starters, let me welcome you all back from your various 
adventures this summer. Apparently our humble group was scattered far 
and wide. And secondarily, HELP!

We have a number of Outreach events next week that we need CBUs* for. 
If you can volunteer for one or more of them we would be 
appreciative. The first is the ASA Boston T-party at 8-10:30 pm, Tues 
8/29 in Stata first floor. I believe we are at the "Science Park" 
T-stop. Drop me a note if you want to meet, greet and eat frosh and knosh.

On the 30th, our peripatetic student team leader Corey "CoFu" 
Fucetola is leading the Energy Club in a SD status discussion. This 
will encompass our current plans for novel materials and designs. We 
are the Editor's Pick for the month 
(http://events.mit.edu/spotlights.html) so come join in if you want 
to catch up (in fact, come an hour early, because we are going to 
make the hour before the weekly Energy Club meeting as our meeting 
time this semester).

And on the 1st is Midway 
(http://web.mit.edu/asa/publicity/midway.html). We are sharing a 
table with Energy Club. You will get a chance to meet every single 
incoming freshman at this event. For those of you that worked one of 
our many poster sessions last semester, this is pretty much the same; 
answer questions, swap emails, etc.

September 29, 12:32 EST. Put that on your Solar Decathlon Calendar 
(available at http://web.mit.edu/wgrecycling/calendars.shtml). That's 
the time the Google Maps Satellite flys over 42.362025 N, 71.083011 
W, better known to you landlubbers as Cambridge, MA. We are going to 
do something with the McGregor Dot (probably just paint it yellow, 
with either lime and food coloring or that stuff that janitors throw on vomit).

Here are some updates from the summer.

The City of Cambridge formally recognized us. See the website

Oliver Smoot himself, the man, the myth, apparently still amongst the 
living,** has given us permission to sell Solar Seven Smoot Sticks 
for SD007. We will expect you to all sell your share; there will be a 
prize for the person who sells the most Smoot Sticks. It will be a 
Smoot Stick. Richard Shyduroff is currently looking for a 
manufacturer for these. Dr. Smoot said he would meet us in DC, a mere 
13 months and 423,661 Smoots away.

More info in a week (at our scheduled meeting). Feel free to 
advertise these events, especially if you can chat up some more volunteers.
