Quantum Materials

The ACS-Moore Postdoctoral Bridge Award in Quantum Materials<https://www.acs.org/funding/scholarships-fellowships/acs-moore-postdoctoral-bridge-award-in-quantum-materials.html> program will provide one year of funding and a structured cohort experience to outstanding postdoctoral researchers in quantum materials who face financial challenges in their current appointment or in securing their next position.

Criteria: Scholars will be chosen on the basis of their postdoctoral and other research work as well as in the potential impact and creativity of their proposed studies.

ACS will select recipients for awards using an objective and nondiscriminatory selection process based upon criteria that include each applicant's scholastic achievements, academic records, scientific proposal, and submitted letters of recommendation.

This is a nomination-based program. ACS requires an Institutional Endorsement letter, which the Research Development team will facilitate with the Office of the Vice President of Research.

Internal Nomination - MIT may nominate up to six individuals

MIT postdoctoral scholars wishing to pursue nomination should speak with their PI and submit the following materials as a single PDF.

  1.  Statement of research, including key findings and future research directions (3-page limit, excluding figures and references)
  2.  CV in NIH format
  3.  Letter of Support from PI (2-page limit)

Award: $100,000/year for one year ($95,000 stipend plus $5,000 for research and travel)

Note: Under-recovery is NOT required.

Eligibility Requirements

  *   Facing financial challenges with respect to their current postdoctoral appointment and/or in securing their next career opportunity
  *   Demonstrating strong potential for significant contributions to the scientific community and future academic leadership
  *   NOT currently supported by a 2025 EPiQS cost-extension or a Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation's Postdoctoral Fellowship Commitment
  *   NOT supported through the following 2026 EPiQS awards: Material Synthesis Investigator; Moore Fellow Synthesis; OR 2026 Experimental Investigator
  *   Of any citizenship or national origin, residing in the U.S.

Additional Information: Postdoctoral researchers cannot apply on their own behalf. A complete nomination package MUST be submitted by Research Development.

For selected applicants, two letters of support are required: (i) one from the current research advisor, and (ii) one from the department chair OR a close collaborator OR the PhD advisor.
