Subject: Ad Hoc Committee on Climate-Related Industry Engagements

Dear MIT Postdoctoral Association,

On behalf of the Ad Hoc Committee on Climate-Related Industry Engagements, I would like to invite you to share your perspectives on our charge: https://orgchart.mit.edu/letters/launching-new-ad-hoc-committee-focused-climate-related-industry-engagements.

At the website, you will find a survey (confidential unless the respondent chooses to provide a name). The survey is open until June 1.

We welcome you to also share your input by submitting a white paper.

Please use the following file naming format: "author last name-author first name-crie-whitepaper.pdf"

For example: Smith-Sam-crie-whitepaper.pdf

Then, email your white paper to crie at mit.edu<mailto:crie at mit.edu>.

While we use the term "white paper," we welcome a variety of formats, including perspective essays, opinion essays, and expository essays. Please limit your content to less than two pages; extra pages may be used for references or supporting materials.

We encourage you to reflect on three questions in your submission, which will help us answer our charge:

  1. What benefits do you see associated with the MIT Climate Project engaging with fossil fuel companies?
  2. What risks do you see associated with the MIT Climate Project engaging with fossil fuel companies?
  3. Are there terms the Climate Project should consider when engaging with or accepting funding from fossil fuel companies?

Your insights are a vital part of our committee's work.

Again, here's our charge: https://orgchart.mit.edu/letters/launching-new-ad-hoc-committee-focused-climate-related-industry-engagements. And our committee email: crie at mit.edu<mailto:crie at mit.edu>

Thank you for contributing to this important effort.

Best wishes,
Anne (Chair of the ad hoc committee)
