Dear Postdocs,

Tomorrow (November 18) is the deadline to apply for MIT’s new Portable Child Care Benefit.

Some of you have asked if this benefit is different from the scholarships already available for the TCC, MIT’s on-campus child care centers. The answer is, Yes! The new supplement can be used for any licensed provider who cares for your child(ren) while you are at work. This allows you to choose a child care provider closer to your home, closer to your spouse/partner’s work, or in whatever location works best for your family.

If you have children under age 13 years, be sure to apply for the Portable Child Care Supplement by tomorrow’s deadline! Note there are separate applications for Postdoctoral Associates and Postdoctoral Fellows.

Application deadline: November 18, 2022

The Institute has announced a new Portable Child Care Supplement that may be used to reimburse costs associated with child care for infants and children under age 13, including day care, emergency care, nannies, vacation and summer day camps. Reimbursements can be made for Massachusetts-licensed caregivers only. Eligibility for the supplement is based on household income and the number of children under the age of 13, and supplements to eligible postdocs may range from $3,000-$10,000 per year. There are similar but separate programs for Postdoctoral Associates (employees) and Postdoctoral Fellows (non-employees). Please apply to the relevant program according to your primary appointment title. If you are not sure which program you should use, please email mitpostdocs-www at mit.edu<mailto:mitpostdocs-www at mit.edu>.
